Share Kai in Solidarity

Providing manaakitanga (care) in response to events that impact our communities.

We collaborate with communities to run events that bring people together in solidarity over a meal and contribute financial benefit to groups helping their loved ones.

Share Kai in Solidarity with Palestine

Share Kai is partnering with members of the Palestinian community in Ōtautahi to invite people to come together, dine with others and learn about the culture and food of Palestine.

Together we host meals where Palestinian food is celebrated, cooked by talented Palestinian chefs. Menus feature traditional and beloved Palestinian vegan and halal dishes and drinks - such as Sabanekh Wa Riz (Lamb Stew), Fasoolia Beda (White Bean Stew), Basbousa cake and Palestinian tea.

All proceeds raised are sent to families in Gaza to meet basic humanitarian needs.

These events are made possible by our partnerships with neighbourhood community venues and local places of worship such as Risingholme Learning, Opawa and the Upper Riccarton Methodist Church. More than 200 people have dined together at our two Share Kai meals, raising more than $7,000 for this cause.

Come along and join us to show manaakitanga (care) to our Palestinian community.

Sharing a Palestinian meal together so that we can feed families in Palestine, in Gaza, is such a blessing to do alongside InCommon. It brings unity, solidarity and love to Palestine.

Share Kai in Solidarity with the Muslim Community

The Coronial Inquiry into the 15 March 2019 Ōtautahi Christchurch masjidain attacks ran for 8 weeks between October and December 2023.

During this time approximately 600 family members of families directly affected visited Ōtautahi Christchurch to attend court proceedings and to support family members.

The outpouring of compassion and unity shown following the events on 15 March 2019 was something that gave many strength in the days and weeks that followed. We wanted to enable members of Aotearoa to again show manaakitanga (care) to our Muslim whānau during the difficult court proceedings.

Donations were collected by Share Kai that enabled us to host a weekly Share Kai meal for members of the Muslim community over the course of four weeks during the Coronial Inquiry. In total more than 650 meals were made and a space was created where our Muslim whānau could gather and be together.
