Share Kai and Kōrero with the St Albans Community Centre

Diners enjoy a kōrero/conversation at Share Kai and Kōrero.

Did you join us in July to try some zalabiyeh (Middle Eastern/North African round donuts, pictured above), Afghan potato kuku (frittata) or sel roti (Nepali rice flour fried bread)?

We partnered with the St Albans Community Centre for a second series of Share Kai and Kōrero, where our Cooks Collective offered delicious traditional and beloved brunch dishes from the cuisines of Afghanistan, Eritrea and Nepal/Bhutan.

The core theme behind Share Kai and Kōrero is the idea that prejudice between groups of people can be reduced if members of the groups interact with each other. Decades of research demonstrate how, under most conditions, our views of people different from us become more positive as we spend more time together. This simple and inspiring idea offers us solace and much-needed solidity right now.

We calculate that between our events earlier this year at the Stanmore Road Village and last month in St Albans more than 600 people have shared kai and a conversation with someone new.

We have a lovely diverse group of more than 20 volunteers, if you would like to join us and help with our events please get in touch at kiaora@incommon.org.nz.
