Eritrean food centres around tasty spicy thick stews served on top of a sourdough pancake type bread called injera. Injera is made with a mix of tef, wheat and rice flour - or rice flour alone for those who are gluten-free. Stews are made of meat - chicken, beef or lamb - or ades (lentils). Stews are slow cooked and deeply flavoured with berbere (a spice mix featuring chili).

The traditional coffee ceremony, buna, is a lovely ritual that involves roasting green coffee beans, boiling, mixing with spices such as ginger and serving straight to guests, alongside himbasha (popcorn and lightly sweetened bread). Buna is perfect as part of a group morning or afternoon tea.

All dishes are freshly prepared in response to your order by our Eritrean cooks - Semira, Semhar, Husna, Okba, Atsede and Freweini.

Please provide our cooks with at least 7 days’ notice before placing your order. 

Catering orders have a minimum of 10 servings per dish. Delivery within Christchurch Central is free of charge (costs may be added for delivery outside of the city).
